Institute calls on farmers to keep on producing quality, high market value commodities |

The Ethiopian Agriculture Research Institute called on farmers to further enhance the activities launched to produce quality and high market value products towards ensuring sustainability of the growth registered in the agriculture sector.
Institute Director General, Dr. Solomon Assefa underlined that awarding farmers for their outstanding performance would play role in encouraging them to score additional results. Dr. Solomon also said that new agriculture research centers have been established in Afar, Gambella, Somali and Benishangul Gumuz States that have immense agriculture potential but did not enjoy the outputs of agriculture research. The director general told ENA that government’s development program that is centered on agriculture and rural areas has scored remarkable results over the past successive years. It has also increased agricultural productivity. The institute, over the past four years has attached attention to researches on high market value agriculture commodity and animal varieties, he said. Accordingly, the Institute has carried out significant activities in releasing and expanding new agriculture technologies, while new agriculture technologies have been expanded to the farmers. Owing to such efforts, agriculture productivity has significantly increased Dr. Solomon said and added that farmers, who used to produce 10 quintals of produce are now yielding up to 25 quintals of produce from a hectare. |
