Collection of Amharic creative writings released |

Population Media Center (PMC) inaugurated on Wednesday a 235-page collection of Amharic creative writings by ten authors. The published works were selected from among several others that had been submitted for evaluation by Assistant Prof. Zerihun Asfaw.
The writings focus on social heritages and some successful individuals whose experiences and life examples the youth ought to emulate.
The writers stress that the youth have to develop strong characters like honesty, faithfulness, knowing oneself, working hard and growing in knowledge. In addition, being visionary, steadfast and aware of one’s social and natural environment, creativity and developing self-confidence are encouraged in the book.
At the end of the inauguration ceremony, the writers were awarded certificates of recognition for their works, Their names are Hailegorgis Mamo, Yezina Worku, Solomon Taye, Sosina Ashenafi, Teshager Shiferaw, Mesfin Assefa, Tsigereda Hailu and Yeshaw Tessema.
Hailegiorgis Mamo, better known by his pseudonym “Pilatos”, has published a series of books containing the works of western philosophers in five volumes titled “ Tibeb”. He has served as a reporter in both the state and private media for several years
Yezina Worku has published a collection of stories under the little of “Yeteshetew Seitan,” “Yaltemechat Chigign” and “Kinfam Hilmoch” and has narrated other short stories and poems to a live audience. She has recently published a children’s book titled “Ye Afincho Ber Wofoch” and is now ready to release a novel.
So far PMC has published four volumes of short stories. “Yehiwot Tebtawoch” was published in 2003, "Kinfam Hilmoch” in 2004 and “Wenzoch Eskimolu” in 2006. The fourth volume of short stories was published in 2007 and was different from all the others in that the stories were all contributed by women writers and narrate incidents in the lives of Ethiopian women.
